Talent Tuesday: HCNR Workforce Episodes

Taking a break from who is hiring and who was hired, we rounded up some episodes from our radio shows and podcasts on the state of the healthcare workforce. Like many things in our lives for the past three years the pandemic has taken a toll on it. The healthcare workforce might be on the top of the list of disruption. With 18% of healthcare workers having left their jobs and another 12% being laid off, what are the solutions for healthcare as a whole? You can’t open a paper, magazine, or watch news and not hear about the crisis that has evolved. Here are some episodes to listen to on the subject.

From Value-Based Care Insights, host Daniel Marino discusses how to create positive change while facing the current healthcare workforce challenges with Lumina Principal, John Malone and national expert and industry leader in workforce management, Kristi Roe.

From Healthcare Upside/Down: Healthcare Workforce Staffing Transparency with Sheila Talton CEO of Greymatter Analytics and host Dr. Nick. Staffing of healthcare has grown alongside the oft-shared measure of the percentage of GDP that we spend on healthcare. In fact, those two metrics are closely aligned as staffing constitutes a big proportion of the expenditure for any healthcare facility. Basic math on employees in healthcare at the country level suggest that physicians make up about 5% of the healthcare workforce, nurses about 10% – what goes to make up the remaining 85%? We need to move on from discussions and start with action, actions that increase transparency allowing everyone to understand the healthcare system.

From the podcast The Handoff, their guest for this episode oversees more than 8,000 nurses in her role as the Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive for NYC Health + Hospitals. In this conversation, host Dr. Nurse Dan Weberg and Natalia Cineas talk about what’s next for the country’s largest public health system coming out of the most acute phase of the pandemic.

From Healthcare IT Today, hosts John Lynn and Colin Hung discuss: Healthcare Workforce Predictions and Solutions.
