We know that there are a lot of reasons for burnout in healthcare. One that sometimes people sweep under the rug a bit is the impact on productivity of outdated paper-based processes. One of those outdated paper processes that seems to still be lingering around in many healthcare organizations is paper based signatures. This is quite amazing when you think that the eSignature was first recognized by the federal government back in 2000.
While healthcare seems perennial behind in adoption of many technologies, the good news is that healthcare specific eSignature solutions are available and making a difference in healthcare organizations today.
I got a look at this first hand at the HIMSS 2022 conference when I sat down with Janell Goff, Project Manager at Singing River Health System, Brandi Reiterman, Corporate Director of HIM Innovation, Standardization & Training, Health Information Management at Steward Health Care, and Dessiree Paoli, Senior Solution Marketing Manager at Interlace Health. Check out the interview below where we dove into their eSignature implementations, what it’s meant to their organizations, and the impact on productivity and burnout.
Goff shared her experience implementing a mobile informed consent solution at Singing River Health System and Reiterman shared her experience implementing an eSig solution at registration. It was fascinating to see how a similar solution could be used to benefit both the patient check-in process and patient consents in the exam room.
One of the biggest challenges with any technology change is gaining physician adoption. Goff shared some tips for how she approached this problem and why it was so important to have physician support to be able to successfully deliver this new solution. Reiterman shared what other roles were key to her success in implementing this solution at registration.
Check out the interview below to learn more about two successful eSignature implementations: Informed Consent and Registration.
