CIO Podcast – Episode 56: Digital Transformation with Khalid Turk

For the 56th episode of the CIO podcast hosted by Healthcare IT Today, we are joined by Khalid Turk, Chief Healthcare Information Technology Officer at Santa Clara County Health System! (*The thoughts expressed by Khalid Turk are his personal perspectives and may not represent the views of Santa Clara County Health System) We begin the episode by asking Turk about the best digital transformation project he’s worked on while at Santa Clara County Health System and how he was successful. Turk then shares how transformative EMR has been for his organization. He also shares with us the digital transformation projects he is looking to do in the future for his organization.

Next with how huge AI has exploded to the front of everyone’s mind, we get Turk’s insights into how much of that talk is real, how much is just hype, and how he is able to cut through it all. We then move on to CIOs and CTOs at large and see what topics they are concerned aren’t being talked about enough. Just like AI, burnout has also been a huge topic as of late, so we check in to see what Turk has been doing to help alleviate some of that burden off of his people. Next we debate healthcare innovation and what areas are going to see the most of it. And to end the episode, Turk shares his thoughts on what is the most important thing someone can do in their career.

Here’s a look at the questions and topics we discuss on this episode:

  • What is the best digital transformation project you’ve worked on at your healthcare organization and what were the keys to its success?
  • Talk about how transformative your EMR has been for your organization.
  • Where are you looking to do digital transformation in your organization now?
  • How much of AI that’s being talked about today is hype and how much of it is real? How are you cutting through all the AI noise?
  • What’s something you and your fellow CIOs/CTOs are concerned with that not enough people are talking about?
  • What are some of the things you are doing to help your people with all the burnout that’s in the industry right now?
  • Where are we going to see the most of the innovation in healthcare (vendors, EHRs, startups, health systems, retail health, big tech, etc.)?
  • What’s the most important thing someone can do in their career?
