Sounds Like Some Healthcare Tech Conversations – Fun Friday

As we head into the weekend, it’s time for another entry in our Fun Friday series. Before I add any commentary, check out the cartoon embedded below.

Have you ever had any conversations like this? Reminds me of the worst job interview I ever did. I was saying words, but I had no idea what I was saying. I learned a great lesson that day. Don’t try and fake it. If I don’t know something, just admit it. Honesty is better than stupidity.

Luckily, I don’t have many conversations like the one above and when I do have them I exit the conversation pretty quickly. It happens more often when I attend a conference that is somewhat tangential to healthcare. Maybe there’s a piece of it that applies to healthcare, but the majority is a whole new world. These conversations are a challenge because half of them are amazing and give you an incredible glimpse into another industry and how it thinks. The other half of the time it’s so filled with jargon and terms you don’t understand that nothing is accomplished.

Maybe there’s a lesson here for those of us who have worked in healthcare and health IT for a while. Our conversation and the language we use isn’t probably very inclusive of people new to healthcare.
