Senior Citizen COVID Hotline with Jokes – Fun Friday

It’s time again for another edition of Fun Friday. This week’s entrant comes from the Late Late Show with James Corden. The amazing thing is that this video was done back on May 19, 2020, but the concept would likely still be valuable today. The segment is called 3 things to cheer you up. And it’s quite funny because Billy Crystal joins and tells some jokes. Billy is one of the most naturally funny people in the world.

In the vidoeo, Corden highlights a student project that created a hotline (1-877-JOY-4ALL) where senior citizens could call in and have the kids tell them a joke. I called the hotline and it’s still working. Plus, you can now choose the joke of the day or the surprise of the day. Check out the video below to make you smile.

What’s fascinating about this is that it reminds me of a RPM project that I heard someone tell me about 8+ years ago. They gave cell phones to a whole group of patients after being discharged from the hospital (obviously, this was before everyone had their own cell phone). Each day, they’d call the patient and check in on them. Turns out, they had amazing results from this project. Patients loved it and outcomes were better. The person telling me about this then commented, “We saw amazing results. The problem is that we don’t know if the results were good because we were tracking their data or whether the results are good because we called them every day and having someone care about them produced the good outcomes.”

Long story short, there was a lot of loneliness in the world before COVID-19 and it’s amazing the impact having someone care about you makes in someone’s life. I imagine that’s what hearing a joke could do for some people who need something to brighten their day.

Have a great weekend!
