Healthcare is filled with cybersecurity risks. While we’ve dealt with network security risks and software vulnerability risks for a long time, we’re also starting to learn how to protect ourselves against the human risk of our employees falling for a phishing attack. Along with these, we are also seeing device proliferation in healthcare organizations which is creating new risks around IoT solutions that provide tremendous opportunities to improve care, but enlarge the attack surface.
We recently talked with Leon Lerman, CEO & Co-Founder of Cynerio, the leading provider of IoT cybersecurity and asset management solutions, about the security challenges healthcare faces. In our interview, Lerman shared how important it was for healthcare organizations to have a well thought out plan to address risks associated with IoT devices.
While we all know that security is important, Lerman also shared his thoughts on how HHS and the government should get more involved in healthcare cybersecurity. Similar to the EHR incentives we got from the HITECH act, do we need government incentives for healthcare security? Lerman thinks we would benefit from them and it would help healthcare organizations better protect important patient data.
Lerman also shared some thoughts on cyberinsurance and some of the negative impacts that have come from this insurance. Are people relying too much on insurance and not enough on prevention?
