Remote work is no longer just a COVID-19-era precaution; rather, it is a permanent option for the changing workforce. However, remote work presents new cybersecurity challenges. TechRadar compiled a list Oct. 24 of four ways that remote work impacts cybersecurity.
Four ways remote work leaves companies vulnerable:
- Many companies use virtual private networks to protect remote employees' data. However, employee concerns over battery life and slow speed have caused some employees to fail to use their VPN.
- Remote work allows employees to work publicly at coffee shops or while traveling. However, their data may not be totally secure when using public Wi-Fi, even if they use their VPN.
- Remote work has also led to more organizations storing their data in the cloud and outside their organization.
- Remote employees often use their own personal devices, raising questions about how a company's network can secure a personal device.
