Name: Susan Parisi
Previous title: Director of well-being, Nuvance Healthcare
Current title: Chief wellness officer, Geisinger
As the Pennsylvania regional health system’s first chief wellness officer, Parisi will oversee the system’s mental health, professional fulfillment and well-being strategies including advocacy programs and initiatives.
The appointment comes as hospitals face record levels of burnout and staff retention problems spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The crisis of emotional exhaustion and burnout on the healthcare workforce is more important than ever — and it deserves our full attention,” Parisi said in a statement.
Prior to joining Geisinger, Parisi served as the director of well-being at Nuvance Healthcare and cared for obstetrics and gynecology patients during her early career. In 2019, Parisi completed Stanford’s chief wellness officer training.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a medical degree from New York Medical College.
