As a techguy by background, I’m fascinated by all the new technology that’s available to help healthcare. Of course, I understand that technology itself is only part of the solution. It takes the right mix of people, process, and technology to make a real impact on the lives of patients and the doctors and nurses that serve them. That said, it is pretty amazing to see how far technologies like computer vision have come and how that progression can help impact healthcare in positive ways. In other words, workflows we couldn’t have even considered previously are now possible and in a price range that we can afford. That’s exciting.
To dive into where we’re at with computer vision in smart hospitals, we sat down with Roger Lam, VP of Engineering at MBX Systems. In the interview, Lam shares some of the top places he sees computer vision being used in healthcare and how that could shape the facilities of the future. He also dives into the evolution of the technology and how the technology is now more accessible to healthcare organizations that want to implement the technology, but weren’t able to before.
I also ask Lam to talk about how a healthcare organization that already has invested in something like an IP based CCTV system can leverage this technology. Do they have to scrap their CCTV system or can they layer computer vision technology on top of their existing infrastructure investments (Spoiler Alert: You can leverage your current CCTV system).
The evolution of computer vision in healthcare is happening quickly. Check out the video interview below to learn more about its evolution, how it can benefit healthcare, and where it’s heading in the future.
