A few good women in healthcare IT have put together an initiative that I thought would be worth highlighting to the health IT community at large. Regular readers will be familiar with Janae Sharp who’s been a regular contributor to Healthcare IT Today and is the Founder of the Sharp Index which works to address physician suicide in healthcare and reduce physician burnout. She got together with Kat McDavitt, Founder, Principal Advisor and Head of Public Affairs at Innsena Communications, to create a new Mothers in Medicine Fund within the Sharp Index with Kat as the Founding Donor.
McDavitt was just coming out of a successful acquisition of the company she worked for, Collective Medical, by PointClickCare and she was looking to see what other meaningful things she could do with her life. A conversation with Sharp led to the Mothers in Medicine Fund which supports mothers by providing financial grants to help subsidize their costs for childcare.
McDavitt realized how important high quality, consistent childcare was for her and her career in health IT communications and she wanted to find a way to help other mothers who had those same needs. So far they’ve given out about 20 grants to mothers in healthcare and they’re grateful for anyone who can donate to the cause so they can help more mother’s in need. Plus, if you’re a Mother who could benefit from help with childcare costs, you can apply for help here.
