The care coordination and healthcare navigation vendor Quantum Health announced this week that it had hired Zane Burke as chief executive officer and Board of Directors member.

Most recently, Burke served as CEO at Livongo, after a 22-year stint at Cerner.

"The team at Quantum Health has succeeded in building the industry’s best high-touch consumer engagement model, with a unique culture that puts consumers and clients first," said Burke in a statement.

"We have the opportunity to build upon this world-class foundation and provide even more value for our members and clients. Our ultimate goal is simple, yet profound: to reach into new end markets to serve more consumers and improve more lives," he continued.

WHY IT MATTERS

Burke's time at Livongo overlapped with the company's 2019 IPO, as well as its big-ticket merger with Teladoc.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Burke oversaw a nearly 600% revenue growth at the company, in addition to a membership jump of more than 375% and a 30-fold enterprise value.

At Cerner, meanwhile, Burke held several roles, most recently as president.

"While at Cerner, he was instrumental in securing two of the biggest electronic health record contracts in history: the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs," his LinkedIn profile reads.

He is also a board member at Cotiviti, Owlet Baby Care and Bardavon Health Innovations.

"As we launch our next stage of growth, there’s no person better equipped to lead Quantum Health than Zane," said Kara Trott, founder and current CEO. Trott will now serve as board chair.

"Zane is a great cultural and strategic fit. He brings proven executive experience, having scaled two of the world’s most successful SaaS and enterprise software healthcare companies. His technology and big data expertise will expand how our solutions support our members' healthcare journeys," Trott added.

THE LARGER TREND

Burke's hiring comes amidst several other high-profile industry moves. This past month, Cerner announced that it had hired Dr. David Feinberg as president and CEO.

Feinberg had been vice president at Google Health, which announced shortly afterward that it would be dismantled.

Meanwhile, NextGen Healthcare faced a potential board shakeup: Founder and Director Sheldon Razin announced his nomination of four new candidates to the company's board in August in response to the company's own selection.

The ambulatory care vendor was still embroiled in the back-and-forth as of this week. On Monday, it sent a letter to shareholders calling Razin's statements "misleading."

ON THE RECORD

"I am incredibly proud of what Quantum Health has accomplished over the past 22 years," said Trott. "I look forward to supporting Zane and our next phase of growth. He is a proven leader who is fully aligned with our mission and our cultural values."
