Compliance Updates: January 2024
Overlook:
- State Legislation
- Board Updates
California:
The Federal Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) authorizes servicemembers or their spouses who currently hold a valid license in good standing in another state to practice in California within the same profession or vocation, if they are required to relocate to California because of military orders. California recognizes these qualifying out-of-state licenses as valid. The state of California has adopted a state registration process to help implement the license portability provisions of the SCRA. The California state registration process requires:
- A copy of the military relocation orders.
- Verification that all active and valid out-of-state licenses within the vocation are in good standing.
- Evidence of marital or other legal status with a servicemember subject to military orders (for spouses and domestic partners of servicemembers).
- California address of record.
- An attestation the licensee meets the requirements and has provided accurate information.
SCRA Requirements and Registration
Pennsylvania:
Legislation has been introduced to amend the Medical Practice Act of 1985. This would allow the board to grant full licensure to providers holding a temporary license as an internationally trained physician meeting the requirements of full licensure under the temporary licensure exception.
Legislation has been introduced to add Associate Professional Counseling and Associate Marriage and Family Therapist licenses to the State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors. The associate licenses will be issued to individuals who are obtaining supervised clinical experience as part of their requirements to obtain either a Marriage and Family Therapist or Professional Counselor license.
Wisconsin:
Legislation has been passed to enter Wisconsin into the Physician Assistant Licensure Compact. The compact becomes effective upon enactment by seven member states. Additional information about current and pending member states can be found on the PA Licensure Compact website.
