Small and Medium Medical Practices Need Business Support

Small- and medium-sized medical practices are struggling. The uncertain economic environment, staffing challenges, and the increasing complexity of providing care is putting practice owners under tremendous stress. EverHealth, providers of end-to-end solutions for healthcare providers, believes that these practices need support from partners that can take on some of the administrative, operational, and financial tasks so they can continue to deliver care to patients.

Healthcare IT Today sat down with Adam Laskey, General Manager of EverHealth at EverCommerce, to find out more about the company’s work, their vision for medical practices, and how the acquisitions of DrChrono and Updox is progressing.

Meeting Practices Where They Are

“Our mission at EverHealth is simplifying and empowering the lives of healthcare providers, the administrators, and indirectly, the patients they serve,” said Lasky. “To do that, we surround our customers with assets that meet them where they are.”

The small and medium practice market is unique. Solutions that work for large health systems do not translate well to practices. For example, the way that a practice does their billing is very different compared to hospitals. At a practice everything may fall to just a single person to code, submit, and correct claims. That same person may also handle other financial aspects of the practice.

Thus, having a completely specialized and separate system for revenue cycle management versus practice financial management adds unnecessary complexity for a practice.

EverHealth recognizes this difference and is building a portfolio of solutions that cater to the needs of practices. That portfolio includes DrChrono, Updox, and eight other solutions which were acquired by EverHealth over the past several years.

“We are focused on bringing all of those assets together and creating more of a platform and ecosystem for our customers,” explained Laskey. “That way, we can support them as they scale and grow.”

EverHealth Payment Solution

Recently, EverHealth launched its new payment solution which is tailored to practices.

“The feedback has been great,” said Laskey. “Our customers are telling us that their patient experience and satisfaction have gone up since implementing our payment solution. That’s encouraging and validating because for small and medium practices, cash flow is their life-blood.”

The integrated payments capability from EverHealth allows practices to accept payments from patients across multiple points of contact – via the website, via SMS text messages, and in-person at the office. The system also makes it clear what the co-pays and patient responsibilities are. The net impact is that practices are able to capture more from patients in a more timely manner.

“We are now thinking about broader financial services capabilities,” shared Laskey. “For example, working capital for startup providers and buy-now, pay-later services.”
