8 Interesting Exhibitors at #RSNA22

The 2022 edition of the Radiological Society of North America conference #RSNA22 featured almost 650 exhibitors. The exhibit hall was dominated by established radiology leaders like GE Healthcare, Siemens, Philips, Canon, FujiFilm, and Agfa HealthCare. However, it was other exhibitors that had the most interesting stories. Here are eight that stood out.

ScanSlated

Engaging patients so they are an active partner in their care is a laudable goal, but with the economic and workforce challenges facing by healthcare providers, it may not be a top priority. Nicholas T. Befera, MD, Co-Founder & CEO at Scanslated believes otherwise.

Befera feels that with increasing competition coupled with the desire by patients for more consumer-friendly health services, healthcare providers that invest in improving patient experience will attract more patients. Scanslated makes radiology reports, patient understandable. Their platform reduces the workload on radiologists and referring physicians…especially now that radiology reports must be immediately available to patients under the 21st Century Cures Act.

We spoke with Dr. Befera to learn more about his company at #RSNA22.

RamSoft

With the 21st Century Cures Act, patients are now entitled to radiology reports as soon as they are available. In response to increasing demand from their radiology customers, RamSoft – a medical imaging software company, developed a patient engagement portal designed specifically to address the needs of radiology clinics and departments.

Called “Blume”, the portal allows patients to upload referral letters, book appointments and get copies of radiology reports in an app. Blume can operate stand-alone or be integrated with existing patient portals.

RamSoft also debuted their new cloud-based Imaging EMR, OmegaAI. Vijay Ramanathan, spoke to us about both these new offerings.

Pure Storage

Image files are enormous and storing them securely takes resources and effort. Pure Storage, specializes in storage and partners with technology innovators to simplify their storage experience. The company already works with many radiology vendors and was at #RSNA22 to talk to startups who needed to quickly scale their infrastructure.

Change Healthcare

Change Healthcare recently launched their cloud-native imaging platform, Stratus Imaging PACS. The platform allows radiologists to read images from multiple source systems and proprietary streaming technology delivers those images quickly.

We sat down with Sonia Gupta MD, Chief Medical Officer for Change Healthcare to learn more about their platform and to discuss some of the challenges in moving from traditional on-prem imaging solutions to one that is completely cloud-based. We also talked about hybrid environments, how AI can be more easily leveraged in a cloud environment, and the efficiencies cloud offers to radiologists as well as IT teams.

RedRick Technologies

RedRick Technologies makes ergonomic workstations for radiologists. Their new ComfortView Glide workstation was a real stand-out. This new workstation design incorporates a central floating work surface that positions the user perfectly square to the monitor that they are working on. This prevents strain injuries.

The workstation is incredibly well engineered. Greg Patrick, Founder & CEO gave us a demonstration.

Able Innovations

Able Innovations makes a unique patient transfer system that is ideal for moving patients from a stretcher to a CT Scanner, MRI machine, or imaging table. Not only does their device eliminate the need to physically lift the patient, it also performs the transfer quickly which can save precious time while in the imaging suite.

Formlabs

It was very interesting to see the number of exhibitors offering 3D printing technology to radiologists. Formlabs is a well-known maker of high performance 3D printers. Their devices have been used by radiologists to print custom-fit masks for patients to help better position them for precise scanning. Their printers are also used to create 3D models from scans to help clinicians touch and feel what the images are showing them. As the cost of these printers continues to fall, we will likely see more and more of them in clinical settings.

DataFirst

When we think about interoperability, most of us immediately think of patient medical records. However, radiology images also require translation and manipulation before they can be used in different radiology systems. DataFirst, has been helping organizations with image migrations for decades. They have now packaged up their proprietary tools and offering them to customers so that they can better manage their multitude of image repositories.

We spoke with CEO Beau Jones about their new Silverback offering.
